Unless you’ve been under a rock for the past week, you’ve likely heard about the gaming craze sweeping the planet – Pokémon Go. What’s the big deal, you might be asking. Isn’t just another gaming app? Yes and no.

Pokémon Go is an Augmented Reality game that places Pokémon in the world around you. Players walk around and find the Pokémon near them and try to catch them. What is new about this app is that it causes people to get up and move. In less than a week, the app has taken off with an estimated 7.5 million downloads and growing!

Once downloaded on an IOS or Android phone, players are able to walk around and “look” through their phone to try and find Pokémon. People travel to Pokéstops to find Pokémon to capture. There are Pokémon pretty much everywhere, and you can attract even more to your location using what is called a “lure”. The lure draws Pokémon from the surrounding areas, and has them group where the lure is. The lure shows up on players’ maps, letting them know where the Pokémon are going to be! (It’s like a Poké Flash Mob!) If it sounds a bit confusing, check out a guide to playing.

A word of warning, though. Several people have been injured while playing, so be careful. Keep an eye on the kids. And have fun!
